==Internet community celebrates Pirates Kiosk==
an attempt to communicate anonymously over email

by Thorsten Büker

Weimar. The TLZ (the paper) tried to contact the Pirates, who established the Kiosk, equipped with a mirror of the controvertial file sharing site Pirate Bay.

===Who is involved in the project?===
(a link to the wikipedia article [[Anonymous_group]])

===What should the Kiosk show?===
It's pointless to close Pirate Bay, which can be set up again anytime, because the files leave still at the users.

===In which legal cercumstances do you act?===
The Pirate Bay offers a BitTorrent Tracker and a list of torrents. Since the server is located in Sweden and the transactions only take place between users, the outcome of the process depends on the regional court.

===Will the police capture the Kiosk?===
It is not only ridiculous, but also unlikely.(This sounds like an electoral campaign, since the way they write about it affects the decision).

===What could the police seize there?===
a computer from the bulk garbage, some cables, a WLAN router and 1.6 million torrents.

===How does it work?===
An ordinary file transmission occurs between the server and the user. In contrast, the BitTorrent protocol is based on the p2p system, i.e. files can be transmitted in small pieces from any user already owning some parts of it to any other user so that it isn't required that the sender has already downloaded the complete file. A torrent file contains the information, which file someone requests, as well as the address of some trackers. The torrent software notifies the tracker so that the transaction between users can take place.

===How are the legal circumstances for those who copying the torrent files here?===
Only by being here, nothing can happen to them, because the torrent files only consists of links.

===What happens, if somebody sitting in the Sophienstift Square is found by the police?===
In the recent days, we found out that sitting in the Theater Square isn't safe, neither. (potential hacking in foreign WLAN, terrorism etc.) An agent investigating at the Kiosk should consider the same question as when someone telephones with his mobile, whether he plans an attack or is otherwise suspicious enough.

===How much has been the establishment used?===
Until now, no significant cut of the 10000 visitors of our blog can be seen in the statistics, since none of them lives in Weimar. The improvement of the weather makes me, however, optimistic. The establishment works only, when several people gather here with their computers. Even if it happens over time, it'd be only a simbolic act, since they need to gather onece more with their hard drives at home.

===The internet is full of stories about you.===
It was from the beginning our aim that the project will be reported, since a) the city is quite small and b) we supposed that it'll only be symbolic. c) Moreover, it's pretty the fitting time to do that before the shut down and sell of Pirate Bay because of the "law of access aggravation"(Zugangserschwerungsgesetz).

===How are the connections between you and the establisher of the Kiosk?===
As we followed the group online, they used the summer vacation, after which they probably need the Kiosk again in October with the begin of semester.

Ok so I have the program modules done, I still need to make a config module (that starts everything on startup). I still have to setup the web stuff. From what I'm reading you guys use both the database and the torrent files. Is that correct? I'm not sure how to put it all together in the end.
